More than likely you are well-aware that an investment in stocks has typically been a very good long-term investment throughout the years. Individual stocks are clearly very viable investment vehicles, but they certainly aren't right for everyone. The purpose of this article is to help individuals decide whether an investment in individual stocks is right for them.

5 questions to ask yourself before investing in individual stocks

1. What are my goals for my investment portfolio?

You need to decide what it is you are looking for from your portfolio. If you are looking to invest for the long-term and are looking for simply the best long-term rate of return from your investment individual stocks may be for you. On the other hand if you looking to preserve already earned income stocks are probably not a good choice for you.

2. Will I be able to do homework on the individual stocks?

Many investors overlook this question, but it is very important to consider. If you want to invest in individual stocks you have to be able to put the time into keeping up with those investments. If you have a portfolio of 5 individual stocks or less you should set aside an hour a week to check the latest information on those companies.

3. How soon will I need the money?

This one is closely associated with question number one. You need to determine whether this investment money is something that you expect to invest and leave it their for money years, or if it will be needed fairly soon. The longer your time frame is, the more likely it is that you should be investing in individual stocks.

4. Do I know enough about stocks?

Let's face it, this is a very important one. Though it may appeal to you greatly to have your own investment portfolio, you have to know what you are doing before diving in head first. If you don't know enough to invest on your own, but want to own stocks, mutual funds are probably a good choice for you. If you want to learn more about investing in stocks, I highly suggest you head over to Investopedia.

5. Do I have the stomach for it?

Stocks are not low risk investments, and if you are looking for a smooth ride then you should just forget investing in individual stocks. Volatility can reach extreme levels during periods of economic recession. Many amateur investors end up getting scared out of the market when the market drops quickly, only to see the market perform quite well after they have gotten out. Ask yourself if you understand the risks of investing in individual stocks.

Investing in individual stocks isn't right for everyone, but I don't want to discourage you from it either. Personally, I invest in many individual stocks and believe it is a great method of investing for a young person with many years until retirement like myself. Ask yourself these questions before you invest in stocks. Are they right for you?

Manchester, Massachusetts is pretty well-known if not notorious for its reluctant attitude towards out-of-towners looking to enjoy its beaches and shorelines. And probably with good reason. A major commuter rail stops in the center of town; during summer, almost hourly trains deposit hundreds of beachgoers in Manchester center. Inevitably they flock, on foot, to the town's best-known beach, Singing Beach.

So Manchester's selectmen passed a well-known and much-maligned ordinance that now out-of-town of town visitors to pay a nominal fee to visit the beach, which happens to lie within easy walking distance of the train station. And so Manchester residents now have to carry, attached to their bathing suits or stashed in their beach bags, a pin which proves they are residents with the right to visit the beach for free.

That said, the town's attitude towards out of town fishing visitors is a little more complex. Like most ramps in Massachusetts, Manchester's boat ramp was built with a combination of state and local funds. So while you can use the boat ramp for free, parking in the town lot can be tricky. Sometimes the parking is free. At other times, it's restricted to town residents. The regulations change seasonally, and according to who grumpy local residents are come time to add articles to the town warrant at town meeting.

So the fisherman looking to launch a kayak, center-consoler, tin skiff or other small boat into Manchester harbor can often, but not always park to launch here. Striped bass, flounder, inshore cod and pollock fishermen then (don't forget that a $10 saltwater fishing license is required in Massachusetts) will find a good trailer ramp and public parking here. You typically won't encounter problems during the late spring and early fall.

Carry down the asphalt ramp for a fifteen-minute paddle to inner Manchester Harbor, the eel grass flats, the Ram Island Sluice, etc.

At low tide the bottom of the ramp is slick, giving way to an abrupt dropoff. Don't be turned off by the color of the water near the ramp. The discoloration is caused by freshwater runoff from the freshwater dam that leads to streams inland.

Paddle beneath the train bridge, turn south, then head downchannel through Manchester Harbor to Ram and House Islands, Whaleback Ledge, Halftide Rock, the Misery Islands, etc.

Be mindful of the narrow boat channel as it passes Crocker's Boat Yard, Tucks Point and the Manchester Yacht Club. The channel, clearly marked with red runs and green cans, gets crowded on weekends.

With the all Federal Reserve interest rate cuts lately -- and with another expected at the end of April -- it is no surprise that many people are wondering what interest rates have to do with things that affect their lives. One of these things is the stock market.

Interest rates and the stock market

It is true that interest rates do not have a direct effect on the stock market. Instead, they have an influence on the stock market. Interest rates influence the stock market in two main ways: through companies and through economic perception. The Federal Reserve sets interest rate policy regarding the rate at which banks lend money to each other. This is an important point to be made. When an interest rate cut is made, it has certain effects on the psyche of those involved.

Interest rates and their effects on companies. This is one of the ways interest rates affect the stock market. Companies can get loans at lower interest rates when a cut is made. When interest rates go up, it costs more to borrow money. This affects overhead costs. And it means that companies' profits are affected. So if interest rates go down, the thought is that companies will spend less money and therefore have higher profits. This invites investors to put their money in the stock market, and it raises the market values. Interest rate hikes, on the other hand, can have an opposite effect in some cases.

Interest rates and economic perception. Investors can get an idea of where the economy is headed due to interest rates. The perception is that when rates are cut, the economy is being stimulated and is likely to expand. In the case of the recent interest rate cuts, many perceived that the Fed was willing to do anything to help the stock market, and this meant that there were jumps in stock values directly following the rate cuts. On the other hand, interest rate hikes put a cap on economic expansion. They can also indicate inflation fears, and this can influence the stock market.

Obviously, though, interest rates are just one factor to consider in stock investing. Your decisions should not be based solely on interest rate cuts or hikes. There are many influences on the stock market, and sometimes perception can make the market behave in ways that are contrary to conventional knowledge. The stock market is unpredictable. But it is still possible to discern general trends.

Chpt6-SecA: How Do I Keep Track of My Stock? by palynp

People will all tell you that penny stock investing is not a good idea. They will tell you that penny stocks are not reliable long term investments and that penny stocks will all fail in the end and that penny stocks are just schemes from corrupt individuals and much of the time these are things which can be true. However I'd counter that penny stock investing may be the last way for average individuals to play in the stock market. Penny stocks are for the most part quite affordable, they make sense for the investor who does their investment homework, and particularly in such a quagmire of an economy, penny stock investing is all that many people can afford. Still, you need to find your own way in the investing world and you need to do what makes sense for you. If penny stock investing does interest you, consider these four tenets to finding your way in penny stock investing.

Consider the Source: One of the easiest ways to get suckered into a bum bet in penny stock investing is to listen to unreliable sources of information. That is, the chat rooms, discussion boards, even websites like the Yahoo! Contributor Network. We are all just platforms for you to do your own discovery. Truth be told no one on any online chat rooms knows any more about what is going to happen in any particular stock than anyone else. If there were real information being spread in the blogosphere that is a crime called insider trading. Most companies; reputable or not; don't want to have insider trading traced back to them. Not only does it involve jail time but it also makes their company less legitimate in the eyes of investors. Consider the source before you run after a flagging penny stock investment.

Consider Your Portfolio: What else is in your portfolio? Do you have a balanced investment sheet or is this something you do in small amounts? For every dollar you have invested in penny stocks, consider setting aside a dollar for, say, bonds. Or CD's. Or savings. Or blue chip stocks. You have to have a balanced investment portfolio; there is no time like the present to divvy up your assets across a number of different investments.

Consider the Industry: What does the company you're investing in produce? What is their market potential? Where do you see this business going in 1 year? 10 years? If your penny stock is trying to make waves in an already established industry, this could be a tough racket to enter. Consider the place in the market for this company's product or service. Does this company deal in bio-technology and are they making partnerships with industry leaders? Or is this a very specific niche industry with not a lot of potential upside? If your company doesn't have an innovative way of doing old business, then they're just old business.

Consider Your Life: Okay this is a big one, you need to remember that these are investments which can (and very well may) go all the way down to nothing. That said, don't go after penny stocks with rent money or your child's lunch money in the hopes of flipping it for a double. You may track a penny stock down and up and down and up every day at these 100% turnaround points, but you can't know that this is going to continue. Consider the fact that you need to still live your life with or without these massive gains.

Penny stock investing is not as easy as many think. It used to be that you could throw some money at the market and whatever stuck would go up 10-fold. This is not the current economy we live in. That said there still is money to be made in penny stock investing for even the small time investor. Go for it!

Things you should do ahead of trading inside stock

practice stock trading by StockTrading Simulator

Everyone knows about the old saying with regards to computers which goes "garbage in, garbage out". I have decided that a stock trading robot would have to be developed by someone who knows the complex thinking and analysis involved in the stock market. A basic understanding of the stock market would not be sufficient to create a good stock trading robot. This of course basically means that the computer has to get good information to get some decent results.

So the individual or individuals who developed a stock trading robot would have to have a good grasp of computer technology as well as a background in the stock market. A good combination would be a computer geek and a stock market expert. So my interest was piqued when I read that there is such a product available to the public.

Just like most people who have an interest in making a profit in the stock market I have been looking into this product in some detail and to my surprise it seems to have some promise. It does not have a long history which is one question I have but on the other hand getting the information generated by this stock trading robot is not expensive. The product has only been available since the beginning of 2007. Also, as with many available products, you can try the picks generated by the robot during a trial period. I have decided that of all the products I am considering to supplement my retirement.

I have used the stock trading robot Marl as a "tester', which was offered to me by the developers, and it may have some promise. It certainly seems to have a good track record to date. Have you ever wondered how to be successful at picking good stocks to invest in? I think this is worth the investment that I have made. Check it out.

Ways To Hire An Appliance Repair Company: Effortless Steps To Help To Make Your Life Easier Internet Selling For Appliance Repair Employees

Appliance Repair by guitarman56

My old Sears Kenmore washing machine conked out on me the other day, and couldn't have happened at a worse time. Broken appliances are never good for a budget since those service calls and special parts to be ordered can be quite costly. However, as expensive as those parts are, nothing is worse than paying for a service call only to discover that the appliance really isn't worth fixing.

Before spending $85 or more for a service call, it's always a good idea to do a little homework on your own first. Research can help you determine the age of your appliance, what might be the problem, the cost of the replacement part, and if the machine is even worth fixing at all.

Preventative Maintenance check list

The Sears appliance department posts preventative maintenance checklists on-line for many of their large appliances. If you bought a used appliance or can't find your old manual, this link to the Sears Repair Service Department is a great place to start.

The checklists won't help you fix your appliance, but will help you identify some of the more common appliance problems. Not all appliance problems are simple ones, and for the ones that are a little trickier to diagnosis, it will be necessary to refer to a repair manual.

Repair manuals

For myself, I usually refer to my Reader's Digest Fix-it-yourself manual which is an illustrated all purpose guide for fixing things around the house. The schematics are generic but close enough to help me determine what might be broken and how the repair must be made. These and other appliance repair manuals are readily available at the public library. However, for those who'd rather not leave their homes, a great on-line appliance repair resource can be found at Appliance 411. This on-line do-it-yourself site contains manuals for all brands of appliances along with easy step by step instructions for making a repair.

It's by looking at these repair instructions that a do-it-yourselfer can determine what parts are needed and if it's something that can be fixed on your own.

Sears Part list

Identifying the broken part is only half the job, looking up the cost of the part will also help you decide if that old Kenmore is worth keeping or should be hauled down to the recycling center instead.

By visiting the Sears Parts Index at this link a do-it-yourselfer can do a part search for her particular model of Kenmore appliance. This site provides blown-apart diagrams to help identify the part that is needed and lists the price of the replacement part. It also tells you the age of the appliance and if the part is even available. It is at the parts section where you can decide if the machine is worth fixing or not.

Self diagnosing a broken appliance isn't for everyone, but for those of us having to watch our spending, a little research can save the price of an unnecessary service call. By researching what parts are needed, their cost, and if it's a DIY project or one requiring an appliance repair man, you will be able to quickly determine if that old Kenmore is worth repairing or if it's finally time to buy a new one.
